Black-Eyed Peas Anyone?

Well, here we are — 2006.  We watched it roll in with our normal fanfare.  We played games, ate snacks and watched the ball fall in NY.  Rushed outside to see that nothing had really changed.  We are under a burn ban here in East Texas so there were few fireworks.  Then we went to bed.

Today was a great way to start a new year.  We worshipped with the saints twice.  We got to hear 2 young men preach that grew up at this congregation.  They have moved away, but both were in town visiting the folks.  Another young man that has moved away lead singing, while a fourth lead us in prayer.  It is so encouraging to see the fruits of our labor being put to good use.  These young men come from some great families that were all just about to bust with pride.

We had our usual black-eyed peas and cornbread New Year's meal.  We have had house guests (my son's girlfriend from Colorado and her friend from South Carolina).  They weren't used to the black-eyed pea tradition.  It's neat to introduce others to our culture and also to experience their's.

Now, the little ones are asleep.  The older ones are playing Yahtzee and singing barbershop songs.  This is going to be a great year!!

Somehow, when I read the part about the young men speaking in your church, I knew you were church of Christ. Takes one to know one maybe. I belong to the Oak Grove COC, Rincon, Georgia. If you are ever in this part of the world look us up. I am a hs mother of 3. Two have graduated and I have about 6 more years to go with the youngest. I enjoyed reading your blog. Linda
