Chemistry In The Kitchen

We had a lot going on today, so I never got around to working with my 4th grader.  I was feeling a little guilty about it.  He didn't seem to mind too much.

I had to go to the church building tonight and work on bible class stuff.  While I was gone, he was going to bake cookies.  That sounded good.  Some nice home made cookies would be great when I got home.

After about an hour, he came over to see me (the church building is next door).  He proceeded to tell me how bad his cookies were.  I told him that was okay.  He learned a lot and wouldn't make the same mistakes.  We talked about mixing the dough enough, cooking them on the middle rack instead of the bottom, etc.  I asked him to bring me one.

That was a mistake.  He came over with his hand dripping in greasy, cookie sludge.  I don't know what went wrong, but these cookies were horrible.  Yuck.  I've never seen cookies in such a mess.  All I can think of is that he left the flour out.

He probably learned more tonight in the kitchen than any book could ever teach him.
