To School or Not to School

We typically do a 4 day school week.  We take Monday off to run errands.  It works fairly well.  But, this week is Thanksgiving week.  Some public schools in the area are taking off (my kids keep me up on this).  We will definitely take off Thursday and Friday.  I am now being encouraged by the whole family to take off Tuesday and Wednesday also.  I'm trying my best to stand firm and continue, but to tell you the truth taking off the week sounds pretty good.  What kind of holiday schedules do you keep?

We’re not doing so much in the line of book work. Listening to audio tapes while baking, cooking and such. This year, we’re going to Buffalo for the holiday – so we’ve planned the trip, tried to estimate the cost of gas and such…so it’s more of a “Life Skills” week for us. Um, that’s how I’m logging it anyway, LOL.

Thanks for reading my blog and commenting on how you did it with your boys…all six of them, WOW!! I thought I was pretty special with 3!! I am going to lay low with the reading thing for a while. I do NOT want to turn him off completely. Now, as for our holiday schedule. Well, we DO take the entire week off for Thanksgiving…only because there is tons of stuff to do that is just as educational. Several opportunities pop up during the holiday season several, being the shopping, the preparing, the cleaning!! My boys are involved in every aspect of this weeks preperation. Yesterday they baked cookies, today they baked pumpkin bread, cleaned the bathrooms, the downstairs, sorted out the toy box and reorganized their bedroom. tomorrow we SHOP! for salad makings, and all the trimmings for dinner. They will also help dad in the yard tomorrow afternoon. So, you see, they are gettin’ plenty of educatin’!! :) Have a happy holiday!!!

Oh, we do the same at Christmas, but take two weeks, sometime three!!!! I find December just too full to be thinking about lessons everyday!!

Another vote for “light school” and playing catch-up. We were a day behind last week so we caught up on our reading today. I keep sluffing on Science so we’ll do that each day. We’re reading some holiday books and doing our math. I’ll probably add some crafts and baking. So…just kind of doing those things that tend to get left out. As far as following my curriculum goes, we’re taking the week off, though we will be doing something each day.

This week we are doing very light school…okay, so almost no school at all! Just relaxing and reading books, a few of them about Thanksgiving…with a smattering of handwriting thrown in. Oh and I do have a couple of science lessons to catch up on…which is just FUN to my boys. :-)

We did school today, but I think we will be taking the rest of the week off. It depends on how long it takes me to get baking done Tuesday and Wednday, and how bored the kids get on Friday and Saturday. We may end up doing school then, and then will still have a three day school week.

Thank you for your comment.
